I'M thiRD RICK DEER MEMORIAL AMPHITHEATER

GATHER TOGETHER

To Support Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer

Campfires are a treasured part of the summer camp experience. They can be raucous events with singing and cheering, or reflective gatherings at the end of a session. For many, campfires represent the bonding of campers and nature. They provide intimate settings that evoke feelings of togetherness – an essential part of the camp experience.

------

YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer lacks an outdoor gathering space that can accommodate the full camp community. Opening campfires are traditionally held in a field below the dining hall, under the shade of the Council Tree. The casual setting, with no seating and no permanent fire circle, limits opportunities for additional gatherings and activities. The time has come for an amphitheater that can support the needs of the expanded camp community.

The I’m thiRD Rick Deer Memorial Amphitheater will be located in a wooded area just above Zivic Pond. The proposed structure will include semi-circular bench seating nestled into the sloping hillside. A permanent fire circle at the front of the amphitheater, and reflecting directly into the still waters of the pond, will provide a safe and stunning focal point.

The proposed amphitheater will accommodate up to XXXX campers and have many uses including:

  • Opening and closing campfires

  • Talent shows

  • School groups
  • Marching bands and musical groups
  • Outdoor education
  • Staff gatherings
