The Lighthouse Project

Giving Youth the Opportunity to Explore and Create

The Lighthouse Project is a teen center housed inside the Homewood-Brushton YMCA The Lighthouse is an exciting place for teens to be creative, connect with peers, and access cutting-edge media and music technology.

The Audio Arts & Visual Arts Clubs meet every Monday and Wednesday throughout the school year.  These clubs serve as creative havens where teens can learn, collaborate, and hone their artistic talents. Club participants learn how to use industry-standard equipment and software and work together to create music, videos, and visual artwork to present and perform around their community and the city. Teaching artists introduce project ideas and make space for youth who want to work on projects of their own design.  Enrollment remains open throughout the year. Consistent attendance is encouraged but not required.

Courses offer in-depth skill-building and expert instruction in a specific art form or discipline. Courses are typically 10-weeks long and take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.  Each year we offer a variety of courses in subjects such as Deejaying, Beatmaking, Youtubing, and Photoshop. Courses require registration, consistent attendance, and have specific start and end dates.

Through a 10-week intensive training course, participants develop expertise in audio engineering. Then they practice these skills hands-on, recording and mixing audio projects for local musicians, students, and community groups.

Students will explore a variety of different art styles and brush techniques that they will apply to a final culminating project. Digital Drawing meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30-7:30 starting Feb 22nd.

Students will learn classic techniques from professional DJ/beatmakers. The course starts March 1st with classes every Tuesday 5:30-7:30pm. Students have the option of in-person or virtual one-on-one instruction every Thursday.
