Here for our community

The Y is a volunteer-founded, volunteer-led organization. Together, we are working to address our community's greatest needs. Give back to your community today. For a better us.

Whether you want to help people improve their overall health, support children and youth as they grow into adults, create a welcoming environment, or simply make a difference in someone’s life, the Y has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities to match your passion, skills and schedule. Whether you are a coach or counselor, a painter or a planter, a board member or a meal maker, the Y community needs you. Apply for a volunteer opportunity today.

We have all been impacted by the world-wide pandemic, but we believe that extending compassion and creating connection can help us all endure. If you believe that we are in this TOGETHER and want to help, take a look at our current opportunities.

At the Y, we're dedicated to strengthening our community by giving back and supporting our neighbors. Togetherhood® is an opportunity for volunteers to serve the community together by selecting, planning and leading meaningful community service projects.

Every Y branch has an advisory board made up of community leaders devoted to making their Y a better place. We’re always looking for good people willing to devote their time and talents to our cause. Please let us know if you’re interested.

Y Achievers is a national academic achievement and career development initiative of the YMCA of the USA purposed to help teens set and pursue high educational and career goals, resulting in graduation and acceptance to an institution of higher learning.

Together, we’re giving young people the resources to reach their potential. We’re providing the access and support all people need to lead healthy lives. We’re connecting neighbors with each other to build stronger communities, and a better us.

Our community partners make all this possible, and we can’t thank them enough. »

The Y has all kinds of events going at all times of the year, and they all need volunteers like you to make them run, and be fun.

“I became a volunteer because I believe the YMCA really lives up to its mission. I knew that I could make a difference in my community when I gave my time and talent to the Y.”

- Dr. Shannon Thieroff

At the Y, safety is our #1 priority.  To protect our volunteers and our program participants,  the Y now requires, as mandated by Pennsylvania State Law (PA Act 153), both the Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearances and Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record checks for certain volunteer positions which require the volunteer to have regular/habitual interaction with children as well as authority on behalf of the parent.

All clearance results must be submitted to [email protected] or mailed to Mission Advancement Volunteer Coordinator Foster Plaza 10, 680 Andersen Dr, Ste 400 Pittsburgh, PA 15220 prior to the start of volunteering.

We sincerely appreciate your willingness to step up for your community and thank you for your patience during the volunteer approval process. You will be contacted with further instruction after all required clearances have been received and reviewed. Once approved, your application is valid for 5 years.

For any questions, concerns or status updates on your application, please email [email protected] or call 412-227-5312.
